FREDERICTON (GNB) – With the close of nominations today, byelections will be held on Monday, Oct. 23, for the following local governments:

·         Beaurivage (councillor-at-large, councillor for Ward 6)

·         Fredericton Junction (mayor)

·         Grand Manan (two councillors-at-large)

·         Grand Lake (councillor for Ward 4)

·         Hanwell (councillor-at-large, councillor for Ward 4)

·         Neguac (councillor-at-large)

·         Riverview (councillor-at-large)

·         Southern Victoria (councillor for Ward 2)

·         Sunbury-York South (councillor for Ward 1)

·         Tracy (two councillors-at-large)

Candidates were elected by acclamation in:

·         Beaurivage (councillor for Ward 2)

·         Hanwell (councillor for Ward 5)

·         Upper Miramichi (councillor for Ward 1, councillor for Ward 3)

With no candidates offering, a vacancy remains in Ward 2 of the local government of Campobello Island. That vacancy will be included in the next round of byelections expected to be held in May 2024.

The list of candidates running in each municipality is available on Elections New Brunswick’s website. Candidates have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, if they wish to withdraw their name.

One day of advance voting is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 14. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
