FREDERICTON (GNB) – Nominations have opened in six communities to fill six vacancies through byelections to be held Monday, Oct. 23. Nominations close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 29.

Also on Oct. 23, residents in the local service districts of Keswick Ridge, Douglas and Bright, as well as a portion of the local service district of Kingsclear and a portion of the local service district of Queensbury will vote on forming a rural community.

Returning offices opened this week.

If more than one candidate is nominated for a position, a byelection will be held. The communities with vacant positions are:

  • Grande-Anse (mayor)
  • McAdam (one councillor)
  • Nigadoo (one councillor)
  • Petit-Rocher (one councillor)
  • Rexton (one councillor)
  • Saint-André (mayor)

“Elections New Brunswick encourages residents in these communities to consider offering for these important positions,” said municipal electoral officer Kimberly Poffenroth. “Serving on council allows individuals to give back to their communities.”

Nomination papers may be picked up from a municipal returning officer or at local municipal offices, or they can be printed from the Elections New Brunswick website.
