FREDERICTON (GNB) – Nominations are now open for 12 municipal and rural community byelections being held Monday, May 13.

Nominations will close at 2 p.m., on Friday, April 19. Candidates have until Monday, April 22, to withdraw their names.

If more candidates than can be elected are nominated to fill the vacant positions, byelections will be held in the following communities:

●    Baker-Brook (two councillors-at-large);
●    Bertrand (one councillor-at-large);
●    Campobello Island, (one councillor, Ward 2);
●    Cap-Pelé (one councillor-at-large);
●    Charlo (mayor, one councillor-at-large);
●    Memramcook (one councillor, Ward 5);
●    Oromocto (one councillor, Ward 2);
●    Saint-André (one councillor, Ward 4);
●    Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska (one councillor-at-large);
●    Saint-Antoine (one councillor-at-large);
●    Saint-François-de-Madawaska (one councillor-at-large); and
●    Saint John (councillor, Ward 3).

Elections NB encourages residents in these communities to consider running for these positions.

"These are important positions which allow people to give back to the communities where they live," said Chief Electoral Officer Michael Quinn.

Nomination papers may be picked up from a municipal returning officer or at local municipal offices, or they can be printed from the Elections NB website.

Elections NB is accepting the names and resumés of individuals interested in working during the elections. Those may be dropped off or faxed to the appropriate municipal returning officers or by going online.
