FREDERICTON (GNB) – Advance polling for the May 10 municipal council, district education council and regional health authority board elections takes place this Saturday, May 1, and again on Monday, May 3. Polls will be open on both days from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Voters in the Edmundston-Madawaska region who were previously in a lockdown will vote later in May.

“Any eligible voter who wishes to cast their vote in advance of the regular polling day can do so at these advance polls,” said Kim Poffenroth, municipal electoral officer. “By voting early, New Brunswickers can reduce the risk of lineups on election day, helping us keep voters and our workers safe.”

New Brunswickers are encouraged to bring their Voter Information Cards with them when they go to the polls. Each card has a unique bar code which will help workers quickly find the voter's name and process them more quickly.

People not on the voters list can still vote but will be required to show identification to be added to the list before being allowed to vote.

Voters also have the option of voting by special ballot, which is available at the 23 returning offices and satellite returning offices around the province, 6 days a week, up to and including election day.

“These voting options provide greater flexibility to individuals to choose the opportunity to vote that is most convenient for them,” said Poffenroth.

Information on the locations of advance and regular polling stations is shown on each elector’s Voter Information Card and on the Elections NB website, or can be obtained by calling 1-888-858-VOTE (8683).
