Considers and makes recommendations on all applications for financial assistance referred to it by the Minister under the Agricultural Development and the Aquaculture and Fisheries Development Acts.

Acts as an administrative tribunal/quasi-judicial decision making body that determines the acceptability of agricultural practices upon receipt of complaints related to disturbances such as odors, noise, light, or other nuisance issues.

Hears appeals on decisions made by the Registrar or an Inspector for applicants of a licence or a secondary processing plant certificate, a licensee, a holder of a certificate or a person who is served with a notice of noncompliance.

Administers agricultural insurance matters by hearing disputes from agricultural producers relating to agricultural insurance matters, conduct surveys and research programs relating to agricultural insurance, etc.

Agricultural Insurance Act

Supervises ten agricultural commodity boards and agencies. Facilitates the Province’s participation in provincial and national orderly marketing systems including investigating, arbitrating, adjudicating upon, adjusting or otherwise settling any dispute involving producers, agencies, boards, distributors or transporters of farm products.

Natural Products Act

Establishes standards to regulate the production and marketing of grain. The Commission has the power to investigate, arbitrate, adjudicate upon, adjust or otherwise settle any dispute between producers, processors, dealers, distributors or transporters of grain.

New Brunswick Grain Act

Reviews the certification status of teachers whose certificate have been revoked or suspended by the Minister.

Owns and operates a wastewater treatment facility and associated collector sewers serving the residents of the parish of Sussex known as Apohaqui, for approximately 50 homes and a school.

Clean Environment Act

Hears appeals and renders decisions under the Assessment Act, Community Planning Act and Municipal Heritage Preservation Act.

Assessment and Planning Appeal Board Act

Advises the Minister on matters related to the Climate Change Fund including amounts credited to the Fund and any allocations to measures relating to greenhouse gas reduction, adaptation to current and future climate conditions and climate change education, in accordance with the Climate Change Act.

Owns and operates a wastewater treatment facility and associated collector sewers serving approximately 125 homes, a school, a church, a fire station, and a senior’s home in the community of Allardville.

Clean Environment Act

Deals with matters relating to the use of the fund including to determine priority funding areas for each fiscal year and to recommend a list of projects and funding amounts to the Minister.

Environmental Trust Fund Act

Reviews and authorizes all capital borrowing of municipalities, rural communities, and municipal agencies in the Province of New Brunswick. 

Municipal Capital Borrowing Act

The Pesticides Advisory Board shall review the content and operation of the Pesticides Control Act and its regulations and may recommend changes to them to the Minister of Environment and Local Government.  The Board may inquire into and consider any matters concerning pesticides and report on them to the Minister and shall perform any other functions that are prescribed in the Act and the regulations or by the Minister. The Board also provides advice to the Minister regarding: exemptions for any person, class of person, vendor, class of vendor, product or device from any of the provisions of this Act and the regulations; contraventions of a provision of the Act of regulations by a person having an exemption; restrictions or prohibitions on the sale, supply or use of a pesticide and any conditions with respect to the sale, supplying or use of the pesticide; and the issuing of permits authorizing the application of a pesticide.

Pesticides Control Act

Manages the handling of a designated material to ensures an industry’s manufacture, storage, collection, transportation, recycling, disposal or other handling of a designated material is done in accordance with a stewardship plan approved by the Board. Currently the Board manages scrap tires, waste paint, used oil and used glycol under the Regulation.

Designated Materials Regulation – Clean Environment Act

Provides water and wastewater to residents residing in St. Margarets that involves two wells serving under 300 residents, and a lagoon and associated sewer collection serving 65 homes and one golf course.

New Brunswick Research and Innovation Council Act

Provides advice to the Minister on matters of importance to women and their substantive equality; brings to the attention of government and the public issues of interest and concern to women and their substantive equality; includes and engages women of diverse identities, experiences and communities, women’s groups and society in general; strategizes and provides advice on emerging and future issues; and represents New Brunswick women, as an independent body.

New Brunswick Women's Council Act

Offers support services to help New Brunswick businesses grow, pursue high growth opportunities through exports and foreign investment, and work with industry partners to identify, build and support a portfolio of significant high growth opportunities both within and outside the province. The board can approve loans and grants up to a S2 million.

Opportunities New Brunswick Act

Advises the Premier on matters relating to the status of persons with disabilities. Brings forth matters of interest and concern to persons with disabilities and promotes employment opportunities, the prevention of disabling conditions, and access to all services offered to the citizens of New Brunswick.

Premier’s Council on the Status of Disabled Persons Act

Plans, coordinates and implements regional and economic development initiatives for the Province as a Crown corporation.

Regional Development Corporation Act

Delivers shared services for the Government of New Brunswick with the express purpose of standardizing and reducing costs. This Crown corporation provides high-quality, innovative public services for customers with a focus on value for all New Brunswickers.   

Service New Brunswick Act

Advises the Minister on matters relating to the use of the assets of the Cannabis Education and Awareness Fund. The fund shall be used to support the development and implementation of education and awareness programs, policies, and research projects related cannabis including its responsible use, prevention of abuse, and strategies for the reduction of the adverse health effects; as well as promotion of corporate social responsibility in the distribution and sale of cannabis.

Cannabis Education and Awareness Fund Act

Undertakes, implements, organizes, conducts and manages the purchase, distribution and sale of recreational use cannabis on behalf of the government of the Province of New Brunswick in accordance with federal and provincial laws and regulations.

Cannabis Management Corporation Act

Cannabis NB, the only legal retailer of recreational cannabis for the province of New Brunswick, is a subsidiary of ANBL and manages retail cannabis sales for the Cannabis Management Corporation. The board administers the business and affairs of the corporation.   

New Brunswick Liquor Corporation Act

Administers and enforces the provincial legislation that regulates securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, caisses populaires, trust and loan companies, co-operatives, and a wide range of other consumer legislation. The commission’s mandate is to: provide regulatory services that protect the public interest and enhance public confidence in the regulated sectors; disseminate knowledge and promote understanding of the regulated sectors; and develop and conduct education programs.

Financial and Consumer Services Commission Act

Exists as an independent entity of the FCNB whose mandate is to adjudicate on matters under the consumer services legislation as administered by the Commission. Financial and consumer services legislation includes the sectors of securities, consumer affairs, credit unions, co-operatives, mortgage brokers, insurance and pensions. It hears appeals of regulatory decisions of staff of the FCNB.

Regulates automobile insurance rates to be used in the Province of New Brunswick by reviewing rate applications, conducting hearings and approving rates as a quasi-judicial tribunal.

Insurance Act

The corporation carries on the general business of manufacturing, buying, importing and selling of liquor, to promote the responsible consumption of liquor and to participate in the development of the liquor industry in the Province as a revenue generating Crown corporation. The board administers the business and affairs of the Corporation.

New Brunswick Liquor Corporation Act

Develops, organizes, conducts and manages provincial lottery schemes on behalf of the Province.

Gaming Control Act

Provides municipal governments & enterprises with low cost funding for capital projects approved by the Municipal Capital Borrowing Board.

Municipal Capital Borrowing Act

Responsible for the review of audits performed on pharmacy providers under the New Brunswick Drug Plan and the New Brunswick Prescription Drug Program.  

Prescription and Catastrophic Drug Insurance Act

Advises the Minister on appeals by persons on matters in dispute or disagreement with respect to:
(a) an application to become or continue to be a beneficiary;
(b) refusal of a claim for payment for entitled services or reduction of the amount so claimed; or
(c) any other matter requested by the Minister in the application or interpretation of the Act and the regulations made thereunder.

Medical Services Payment Act

Reviews the status of an involuntary patient; the ability of an involuntary patient to manage their estate; the patient's access to information concerning their treatment and the accessibility to their chart; the transfer to another jurisdiction; the granting or authorization of certificates of detention; sending out an order to administer a treatment; and the patient's competence or their substitute to give their consent.

Mental Health Act

Advises the Minister on: 
(a) the need, supply and delivery of mental health services, 
(b) issues respecting mental health and mental health services referred to the Committee by the Minister or initiated by the Committee, and
(c) matters related to the development and improvement of community-based support systems for persons suffering from mental disorders.

Mental Health Services Act

Authorizes the admission and treatment of involuntary patients according to the Mental Health Act. Each tribunal is composed of a lawyer and two members of the public.

Midwifery Act

Promotes, coordinates and supports all aspects of health research and innovation in New Brunswick as a non-profit incorporated organization.

Companies Act

Makes recommendations to the Minister to promote and improve health service quality; to develop and implement mechanisms to engage citizens, to measure, monitor and assess population health and health services quality; to identify effective practices for the improvement of health service quality; to evaluate strategies designed to improve health service quality; to assess citizen satisfaction with health services and quality; and to investigate matters respecting healthcare referred to it by the Minister with recommendations.

New Brunswick Health Council Act

Makes recommendations and advises the Minister on the classes of drugs to be considered for designation as monitored drugs; policy and other matters related to the Program; possible amendments to the Act or the regulations to further the purposes of the Program; issues arising from the collection and reporting of information under the Program; and any other matter established by regulation.

Prescription Monitoring Act

Regulates and administers 5.5(1) of the Act which states: the provincial authority may refer to the Professional Review Committee for review, patterns of billing of medical practitioners and oral and maxillofacial surgeons under the medical services plan in order to identify, in respect of a medical practitioner or an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

Provides advice to government on the investitures of the Order of New Brunswick.

Order of New Brunswick Act   

Sets competency levels; approves training programs; and oversees the licensing process for persons working on propane, natural and medical gas installations.

Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act

Section 672.38 of the Criminal Code of Canada requires that a Review Board be established in each province. The Board makes or reviews dispositions made by the criminal courts concerning accused found not criminally responsible by reason of mental disorder or unfit to stand trial.

Governs the policies and strategic priorities of the Commission and ensures the funding received is spent efficiently by reporting to the Legislature through the Minister of Justice. Assures the public that the actual operation of the legal aid system is separate from the government which is responsible for public prosecutions.

Investigates and determines complaints relating to the conduct of a member of a municipal or regional police force; investigates and determines any matter relating to any aspect of policing in any area of the Province, either on its own motion, or at the direction of the Minister of Public Safety; and determines the adequacy of municipal, regional and RCMP forces within the Province, and whether each municipality and the Province is discharging its responsibility for the maintenance of an adequate level of policing.

Examines qualified candidates for any class of power engineers licence; provides the examination to be given a candidate for any class of power engineers licence; and establishes the degree of competency that a candidate shall display to successfully pass such examination.

Boiler and Pressure Vessel Act

Addresses complaints of misconduct alleged against Small Claims Court adjudicators. The panel is the roster of names from which a public representative is chosen each time a Complaints Committee is required.

Provides scientific input, advice, and expertise on any matter relating to the biological assessment of Species at Risk in New Brunswick.

Regulates standards and administers examination of candidates seeking licensing and renewal of licensing to scale primary forest products in NB, as well as managing licensed scalers’ performance issues.

Advises the Minister on matters relating to the management of Crown Lands and Forests, the settlement of disputes with respect to the management of Crown Lands, and other matters submitted by the Minister.

Regulates the electricity, natural gas, pipeline, motor carrier industries and sets maximum gasoline prices for the province as an independent Crown agency.

Hears appeals for Licensee's appealing the results of Forest Audits. May change or uphold audit results.

Oversees the marketing relationships involving forest industries (pulp mills and sawmills); forest products marketing boards (private woodlot owners and producers) and the provincial government. An independent Commission composed of seven members who report directly to the Minister.

Provides advice an makes recommendations to the Minister on matters relating to the conservation, protection or enhancement of fish and wildlife populations or their habitats. It recommends projects to the Minister for payments out of the Wildlife Trust Fund.

Provides to the Minister scientific input, advice and expertise on any matter relating to the classification and management of protected natural areas.

Raises funds specifically for the public library system, primarily for collections but also funding for the purchase of specialized equipment in libraries, such as assistive technologies for people with disabilities with the support of external funds. Receives in-kind donations of materials to add to library collections across the province.

Hears appeals on workers’ compensation matters. This independent tribunal has expertise in the workers’ compensation system.

Workers’ Compensation Act

Develops, oversees, coordinates and implements initiatives to reduce poverty and assist New Brunswickers to become more self-sufficient. The Corporation ensures the continued partnership of the citizens of New Brunswick in the development, adoption, implementation and evaluation of the Economic and Social Inclusion Plan. It has representation from government, the Official opposition, business and non-profit sectors as well as people who have experienced poverty.

Provides an independent process allowing applicants to appeal decisions made under the Act and its regulations.

Family Income Security Act

Provides oversight to study housing needs and conditions, and the adequacy of existing housing accommodations in NB. This Crown corporation does so with an emphasis to the needs of individuals and families of low income.

Regulates combat sport events by: 1) issuing permits for the holding of events; 2) issuing licenses for persons who participate in events; 3) establishing a code of conduct for participants in events; and 4) ensuring the presence of medical staff.

Researches, collects, preserves and interprets the natural and human history of New Brunswick as a Crown agency.

Manages the public-private partnerships with private sector companies to build and maintain certain highways in New Brunswick. This Crown corporation is comprised of government employees and the Ministers of the Departments of Transportation and Infrastructure and Finance. The NB Highway Corporation also has 3 subsidiary corporations including the New Brunswick F-M Project Company, Route 1 Gateway Project Company Ltd. and the Trans-Canada Highway Project Co. Ltd.

Provides for educational services, programs and opportunities for hearing and visually impaired youth, age 0-21 in the Atlantic Provinces.
