FREDERICTON (GNB) – As voters who reside in the Edmundston-Madawaska region head to the polls on Tuesday, May 25, for their last day of voting, Elections New Brunswick will begin the process of uploading data from the tabulation machines in preparation for the release of provincewide results later that evening.

The uploading of the results will begin at 9 a.m., Tuesday morning and continue until all data files from the tabulation machines have been extracted and uploaded. This will be done by processing all tabulation machines from each municipal region in consecutive order, starting with Campbellton-Restigouche (M01).

The entire process will be conducted under the supervision of the municipal electoral officer and the province’s integrity commissioner and livestreamed for all candidates and scrutineers to observe.

“We are doing what we can under the unique circumstances of the pandemic and the requirements for social distancing to provide candidates, as well as any interested citizens, virtual and transparent access to the process they would have traditionally been able to watch in person,” said Municipal Electoral Officer Kim Poffenroth.

Once polling stations close at 8 p.m. in the Edmundston-Madawaska region, the reporting of results for the entire province will take place and results will be available on the Elections New Brunswick's website.

Poffenroth thanked the candidates as well as voters who cast their ballots in the May 10 elections for being patient as those voters who were previously in lockdown in the Edmundston-Madawaska region had their opportunity to vote.
